The Lithuanian Government decides to add to the Sweden-Lithuania Fund

The Lithuanian Government has decided to contribute to the newly established Sweden-Lithuania Cooperation Fund.

The Sweden-Lithuania Cooperation Fund was founded by the Swedish government with a donation of SEK 10 million (about EUR 1,000,000) in commemoration of the centenary of the Lithuanian independence in 1918. Four members of the board have been appointed by each country with the chair Carl Bildt, former Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in Sweden. Similar foundations funds have been established for Sweden-Estonia and Sweden-Latvia with separate boards.

The Lithuanian Government has now decided to contribute to the Fund with additional 200 000 EURO. The main task of the Sweden-Lithuania Cooperation Fund is to encourage the cooperation between Sweden and Lithuania, especially among young people in order to enhance creativity, innovations and entrepreneurship, and to support culture and language exchange.

“Now it’s time to take the next step in the future network of relations between Lithuania and Sweden. With the Cooperation Fund, we have a strong new opportunity to do this and we heartily welcome the contribution from Lithuania”, says Carl Bildt, chair of the board of the Sweden-Lithuania Cooperation Fund, former Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in Sweden.

Cooperation with the award winning opera performance and art project Sun & Sea in Malmö
The Cooperation Fund has initiated a collaboration with Malmö Konsthall (Malmö Art Hall) in Sweden regarding the Lithuanian opera performance Sun & Sea, a live installation, which was awarded the Golden Lion for the best national participation at the 58th Contemporary Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia last spring and mentioned by many critics as one of the most interesting happenings during 2019. The performance will be shown at Malmö Konsthall on May 5-17 this year. A powerful art experience by Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė, Vaiva Grainytė and Lina Lapelytė, curator Lucia Pietroiusti.
