Presentation of a project granted by the cooperation fund
The project was initiated by the Sweden-Lithuanian National Association. Åke Carlson is chair of the Association board. He says:
Our aim in the Swedish-Lithuanian National Association is to promote ties of friendship between
Sweden and Lithuania among young nurses, specialists in the social care, not least to secure a peaceful
world. Through visits in Sweden and Lithuania a lot of experiences have been shared. The project was a
success. The Lithuanians were impressed by the technological level in Sweden, and the care and the
attention towards the patients in Lithuania were highlighted by the Swedish participants. All partners
cooperated in a fantastic way. Thanks to the Sweden-Lithuania Cooperation Fund this project could be
realized. We hope that the cooperation will continue.
The idea of the project, was to to give young nurses and nurses in education and their teachers a chance to see and learn from each other, and create networks and contacts between the two countries. Five social work specialists from Siauliai visited Sweden, where they followed lectures at Växjö Fria Gymnasium. They also visited social welfare organizations and the municipality of Växjö as well as the student's training at elderly homes and homes for disabled persons. Teachers and students from the Gymnasium payed visits to reciproke homes in Lithuania, a training center and the cities Siauliai and Vilnius. This is in cooperation with Växjö Fria Gymnasium, a college for students in social work, and the elderly home in Siauliai through the local Lithuanian-Swedish Society. The project was run during 2023 and the support from The Swedish-Lithuanian Cooperation Fund was EUR 4 000.
